A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
There are different forms of organisational layout and arrangement. A linear organisation consists of a series of spaces that are similar and repetitive along a given axis. A centralised organisation is a concentrated composition that is focused around a central space. Such central form unifies the organisation and its configuration acts as a centre of gravity for the building and its functions. A radial organisation has features of both a central organisation and a linear organisation with a dominant central space and linear forms that extend in a radial manner. The grid organisation is one of the fundamental frameworks where facilities are constructed in a particular regular relationship in two or three planes. The grid creates a field, positive forms, and conversely negative spaces that need to be considered. A clustered organisation may comprise a number of different built forms, which through their grouping in proximity create a shared special relationship.
