The Bronx River restoration project demonstrates how effective collaboration between local community organisations and public bodies can improve social and environmental issues in a low‐income neighbourhood. The Bronx River and Borough have undergone an impressive renovation, especially in recent years, thanks to the citizen's ongoing involvement since the 1970s and the support of NYC Departments. The successful makeover has reduced the basin's ecological imbalances, creating a green corridor along the river and devising new parks. Recent history indicates that also the Federal Government has played an important role for the development of the Bronx watershed thanks to its funding programmes.
