Contingency Planning for Water Utilities
Contingency planning is an essential facet of water‐utility management but one that is often overlooked. Although utilities in different areas of the US will be vulnerable to different kinds of natural disasters, the effects of these disasters, in many cases, will be similar. As a first step toward an effective contingency plan, each utility should make an assessment of its own vulnerabilities; then a comprehensive plan of action can be developed and implemented.
