Performance of UHPC Crossarms for High‐Voltage Transmission Lines
This chapter reports on a project that is in an area of high economic and technological importance to the electrical utility industry. The project addresses an important topic in application of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) Ductal® crossarms in high‐voltage transmission lines as a potential and effective solution for replacing existing, deteriorated wood and steel crossarms. The chapter reports an overview of the experimental program of an extensive investigation on the structural evaluation of prestressed UHPC C‐channel crossarms, with emphasis on the fatigue performance and durability of UHPC crossarms. The development of reliable solutions for transmission lines by Lafarge Precast using UHPC offers a variety of interesting applications within this industry. The experimental program consisted of five phases with different objectives. Detailed description, objectives and significant test results of each phase are presented.
