Modeling the Three‐Dimensional Hydraulic Performance of a Prototype Repository System within Fractured Crystalline Rock
A numerical simulation is presented of the hydraulic behavior of the pre‐placement phase of the Prototype Repository project undertaken by SKB in Äspö, Sweden. The modeling is based upon a fully three‐dimensional finite element formulation to allow the inclusion of inherent anisotropy. The domain considered includes the rock mass and known hydraulically conductive fractures around the entire repository. A good correlation between calculated and measured inflow rates is obtained for both the tunnel and the placement deposition holes.
