Reinvention of Color in Housing: From Vernacular Interiors to Post‐pandemic Strategies
Color has undergone a constantly transformative journey spanning centuries, driven by diverse changes across disciplines ranging from art to chemistry. However, at its core, color revolves around the most crucial aspect of interiors: the user. For residential spaces, user preference and taste wield greater influence compared to other spatial typologies. The advent of modernism revolutionized users' perception of color as an integral element of interior architecture, while the emergence of color forecasting in the 20 th century was propelled by societal needs. Although color choices in residential interiors may appear personal and subjective, the application of color within these spaces can be enhanced by considering objective color preferences and conducting color semantics research. This chapter aims to consolidate studies on color preferences and examine the divergence between color forecasting in interior architecture and the fields of fashion and textile whilst proposing more synthetic color forecasting for residential spaces.
