Urban Design and Planning
Building on the previous chapter, this one will look explicitly at the role of the urban designer and planner in shaping the planning and development of real estate. While the architects' focus is on the building and the landscape architects' focus is on plantings and vegetation, it is the urban designer and the planner who looks at the spaces between buildings and the public realm. The chapter extends Chapter 7's historical review by reviewing the evolution of urban design and planning as professional practices and the way that various styles and fads have impacted the construction of the built environment. This chapter also explores the ways that urban designers and planners have implemented people‐centered design, with particular attention to the use of biometrics to measure human unconscious responses to places.
