Moment Evaluation for Performance Functions
This chapter discusses the method and procedure for obtaining the moments of a performance function. It first discusses the moment computation for simple performance functions. And then point estimates method is discussed for moment computation for complicated performance functions. Since two‐ and three‐point estimates may be inadequate for practical use, the point estimate method in standard normal space with arbitrary number of points is further discussed. The chapter introduces approximation methods and the moment computation for the performance function of correlated random variables using the second‐ and third‐order polynomial transformations. The results of hybrid‐dimension reduction, bivariate‐dimension reduction, and Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) are also shown, where the results of MCS are taken as exact values.
