A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
In light of the abundance of complex urban problems constantly encountered in sub‐Saharan cities, this chapter aims to show that the solution to these problems lies in respect and adoption of urban governance based on sustainable and intercultural urban planning. The concept of sustainable development has made it possible to question methods of urban development that have been used in cities until now. Intercultural urban planning is part of a process, a project and progress approach that integrates intercultural dialog into urban planning. The United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, commonly known as the 2030 Agenda, includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Goal 11 of the 2030 Agenda aims to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. The New Urban Agenda was adopted at the United Nations Conference in Quito, Ecuador, on October 20, 2016. The New Urban Agenda inaugurates the recognition of a correlation between good urbanization and development.
