A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
There are some architects who quite forcibly, but wrongly, instruct the contractor to accelerate progress, some even instruct the contractor to put more operatives on site. These are usually the same architects who fail to supply necessary details and then refuse to give an extension of time on the basis that the contractor can easily make up the lost time if it puts more operatives on the site or works overtime at its own expense. Most contracts which include something about acceleration need the contractor to agree to it. If a contractor believes that it is entitled to an extension of time and the architect refuses to give it, the contractor, fearing that liquidated damages will be levied if the completion date is not achieved, may institute acceleration measures to finish on time despite the delay. An acceleration agreement must provide that the contractor meets the required date or gets no extra payment.
