ASC 326 Financial Instruments—Credit Losses
This chapter provides clear explanations and practical examples for real‐world application of ASC 326, Financial Instruments—Credit Losses. It includes relevant sources of GAAP and expert guidance on interpretation, terminology, relevant concepts, and applicable rules, while in‐depth discussion on the issues surrounding specific pronouncements offers informative perspective for a variety of scenarios. ASC 326 contains three subtopics: ASC 326‐10, Overall; ASC 326‐20, Financial Instruments—Credit Losses—Measured at Amortized Cost; and ASC 326‐30, Financial Instruments—Credit Losses—Available‐for‐Sale Debt Securities. ASC 326 changes the impairment model for most financial assets currently measured at amortized cost and certain other instruments. The impairment model changes from an incurred loss model to an expected loss model, referred to as the current expected credit loss model. It also requires recording available‐for‐sale debt securities' credit losses through an allowance account.
