How much one chooses to write down or type into his/her computer diary is a matter of judgement, but at least record the date, who called, the topic discussed and the times the call started and concluded. Get into the habit of recording all calls in some way and if it is obvious that a call is important, copy those details to the appropriate file. Many people have two mobiles, business and personal. Unless there is an extremely good reason, explained to all present, he/she must never leave a mobile phone switched on during a meeting. Some companies arrange important meetings away from the office precisely because they do not want the participants interrupted by telephone calls or urgent consultations. To take a mobile phone into that environment defeats the object.
