A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The most important question for all construction professionals really is fees. Before trying to answer any question about fees, it is necessary to establish the terms of engagement. If it is a professional who has been commissioned on one of the professional bodies' own appointment documents or on the professional's own terms and if the documents have been properly filled out to reflect the particular project, the terms should be clear. It should simply be a matter of seeing whether the fee question falls within one of the terms. It is a common belief that even if architects and others do not enter into any kind of formal agreement with their clients, they will still be entitled to be paid for the work they do. Sometimes the architect will have written to the client setting out the architectural service to be carried out and noting that terms are to be as 'RIBA terms'.
