Designed Landscapes and National Designation
This chapter gives an overview on the history and development the designation system and selection criteria and how these help to protect historic designed landscapes. It argues that the inclusion of a site on the national Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England remains one of the most important tools to enhance understanding, appreciation and protection, and to help inform decisions on repair, management and/or development proposals.
