Understanding Value Generation in Complex Urban Regeneration Projects
Complex urban regeneration projects are usually large‐scale, long projects, which often involve a combination of products and services. In general, there are conflicting objectives due to the diversity of stakeholders involved, and a strong participation of the community is often required. The aim of this chapter is to understand the challenges of managing value in highly complex urban regeneration projects. It is based on a set of case studies carried out in the City Entrance Integrated Programme (PIEC) in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The goal of this programme is to regenerate an area originally occupied by several irregular settlements and improve the quality of living for the local communities. The main contribution of this investigation is to discuss the applicability of emerging value management approaches in the context of complex urban regeneration projects and propose a conceptual framework for assessing complex urban regeneration projects.
