Collaboration and Teamwork
This chapter discusses the role of Autodesk® Revit® software tools in facilitating a collaborative design and documentation process while giving multiple people simultaneous access to the same file during architectural projects. The chapter offers methods for users on how to understand key work‐sharing concepts, enable work‐sharing on their project, organize work sets in their model, manage workflow with work‐sharing, and understand element ownership in work sets. Work‐sharing occurs when work sets are enabled and a project file is saved as a central file located on a network drive. This central fi le becomes the repository where all the design team's work is saved. Team members then create a local copy of the central file on their own workstation in which they will work as usual. All building elements, spaces, and datum objects users place in the project are assigned to user‐created work sets. Only elements in user‐created work sets can be moved to other user‐created work sets. Work sets should be structured by a team's BIM coordinator or a project manager familiar with a BIM work flow.
