This chapter discusses a veneer plaster finishing system developed by the United States Gypsum Corporation (USG). Veneer plaster finishes can be used in one‐ or two‐coat applications and can be given smooth or textured surfaces. Each method has its particular advantage and local preference. Trim accessories simplify and enhance the finishing of veneer plaster assemblies, and are suitable for steel frame and wood frame construction. The chapter has a section devoted to joint treatment and surface preparation for veneer plaster construction. It discusses the application methods for veneer plaster finishes including mixing and proportioning procedures. No matter what type of paint or decoration is used, it is essential that the plaster be completely dry. The chapter also discusses radiant heat plaster system and special abuse‐resistant systems. Decorative interior finish system utilizes veneer basecoat and finish coat plaster products mixed with pigments that will not affect plaster set.
