Maintaining the course in lawn and landscape water conservation
This article responds to the Perspectives column in the February 2006 issue of the Journal titled, “New Directions in Lawn and Landscape Water Conservation” written by Amy Vickers. This article refutes some of Vickers' statements, and then explores areas of waste that represent a greater opportunity for water savings to the public, without imposing radical plant restrictions that directly affect daily quality of life. Moreover, the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) maintains that fundamental, market‐driven supply‐and‐demand economics currently are evolving and will prevail. Areas that offer a greater opportunity for water savings are discussed.
