Triboelectric Nanogenerators Based on Polymer Foams
Due to the energy crisis and serious climate change caused by traditional petroleum‐based energy sources, the development of green energy harvesting techniques become more and more important. Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) offer a novel approach to converting mechanical energy into electrical energy by making use of the electrostatic charges generated on different triboelectric materials, which can harness subtle mechanical energies that exist anywhere in our daily lives. The energy output of TENG relies on the charges generated on the friction materials. Polymer foams that have abundant porous structures offer a large specific area for charge generation during friction and have been recognized as promising materials for TENG fabrication when considering their other advantages, including high flexibility, abrasion resistance, and low cost. The classification and mechanism of TENGs, the prominent factors influencing TENG performance, the advantages of polymer foams in TENG, and advanced applications of TENGs based on polymer foams will be covered in this chapter.
