Packaging and Transferring Patients for Confined Space Rescue
The goal of a confined space rescue is to remove the patient as quickly as possible without aggravating existing injuries or causing new ones. This chapter discusses patient packaging equipment and techniques. Spinal immobilization and the use of short immobilization devices, backboards, and litters are described. Improvised harnesses for rescuers and victims are described. The necessary equipment, personnel, and procedures for both vertical and horizontal litter lowers are discussed in detail, as well as lowers down stairwells.
