Pressuremeter Tests (PMT, SBP) and Variants
The Pressuremeter Menard Test (PMT) consists of inflating a dilatable probe in a borehole and linking the pressure of the inflation to a measurement of the deformability of the soil, the pressuremeter modulus EM and a measurement of the pressure limit PLM. The self‐drilling pressuremeter test (SBP) is an improvement of the Ménard probe. In this test, the pressuremeter probe is put in place by self‐drilling at a chosen level; the drilling, rotation and injection cease and the evolution of the pressure in the measurement cell must be followed until stabilization. The dilatometer is intended to test rocks during drilling. The "Geomecametre" is another pressuremeter test that can be considered as a shearing test between the radial stress and the circumferential stress in the horizontal plane, with the normal vertical stress at the plane of shearing.
