In Situ Carbothermal Reduction/Nitridation Carbon‐Nano Powder Added Geopolymer Composites
This study investigates the feasibility of conversation of carbon‐nano powder added geopolymer into its carbide and nitride analogues by in situ carbothermal reduction under argon and nitrogen gas, respectively. It was found that a geopolymer may be converted to its carbide and nitride analogues by carbothermal reduction. Determination of the geopolymeric composition carbothermal reduction is also investigated in this primarily study. The best geopolymer composition for carbothermal reduction was optimized at 1:1:4.5:12+9C. In addition, three different reaction temperatures were tried under both argon and nitrogen gases. The results show that SiC was SiAlON formed at 1550 °C in nitrogen. mainly formed at 1550 °C under argon, whereas sinoite was formed at 1450 °C and 1500 °C, while SiAlON formed at 1550 °C in nitrogen.
