Progress in Plastic Materials for Water Meter Casings
This article provides a progress report on a study to determine the best available plastic materials for water meter casings. The optimum content of filler and fiber in the resin was also studied. Various amounts of different types have been evaluated in combination with each of the plastic materials. All materials have been exposed for several weeks to live steam, to determine the resistance of the compounds to heat and moisture, their dimensional stability, and their resistance to decomposition. Both thermosetting and thermoplastic materials have been tested.
