Synthetic Polymers as Corrosion Inhibitors
Corrosion control is one of the primary aspects in the field of material usage in large‐ and small‐scale industries for using metal and its alloys. The best option for controlling corrosion is the use of corrosion inhibitors as they are economically cheaper and does not require any practical means for controlling the corrosion in different aggressive or corrosive medium and for the different substrate. The use of polymers has come into the limelight as they offer excellent corrosion resistance. The reason for this is the superior performance of polymers due to their large size and a greater number of functional moieties in their structure. Although numerous issues are associated with the use of such inhibitors as they are not eco‐friendly, but apart from this they still holding their roots because of their stability at elevated temperature. In literature, various synthetic polymers are used as corrosion inhibitors. The performance of these polymers to inhibit corrosion is dependent on many factors (molecular size, weight, composition, nature of the functional groups, and molecular structure). The aim is to provide deep insight into the use or behavior of synthetic polymers as corrosion inhibitors in different corrosive mediums and to carry out the study in the path of this theme.
