A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This chapter examines roof structures and the different types of roofs both modern and traditional. This includes the different types of trusses found in traditional and modern construction. We also discuss the various functions and type of structural elements that form a roof frame with an example of a rafter design is provided. The chapter also provides span tables for rafters and ceiling joists in grade C16 and C24 timber. Modifications and structural problems associated with roofs and the impact of undertaking alterations to roof frames are also examined.
