Laboratory Experiments on Thermal Effects on Clay Rocks
In order to enhance our knowledge of thermal effects on consolidated clay rocks hosting high‐level radioactive waste, various laboratory tests have been performed on the Callovo‐Oxfordian argillite and the Opalinus clay. These experiments include thermal expansion and contraction, thermally induced pore‐water pressure increase, and temperature influence on deformation under different confining stresses, drained and undrained conditions, and high temperatures up to 150°C. Significant responses to thermal loading were observed in the test samples.
