A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Even if they were happening one at a time, shrinking budgets, rising rates of retirement, fewer workers to fill job vacancies, loss of tacit knowledge and experience, and lack of skilled candidates to fill job openings would be the stuff of managers' nightmares ‐ but all of these issues are happening concurrently. In addition, there are a few intriguing tidbits about the workplace of the future to consider: four generations will be in the workplace for the first time in history; more women will be in the workforce; more culturally diverse workers will become part of the workforce; and, demographic changes may leave employer's no choice but to refashion policies and practices to fit the values of younger workers. Tomorrow's workplace will be a new world for every industry, but only those organizations that have prepared will be able to easily navigate the coming wave of change. It's critical in the current work environment to have plans in place to address workforce issues as they arise ‐ if they haven't already.
