A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The functions of a greenhouse foundation are to support the posts of the frame and to resist the uplift and lateral thrusts due to the winds. In any case, the construction of the foundation walls often takes place after the piping coming from, and going to, the greenhouse, taking care to avoid laying them down too near to the electric lines. A concrete foundation wall is a regular inverted beam‐like foundation reinforced with steel rods. The most common log foundation is the timber log and gravel trench foundation, which is kept dry by the presence of the gravel. Drainage around the foundation wall is important to avoid letting the ground around the greenhouse get soaked. Pavements in the areas of a greenhouse not left to the growing soil can be designed to maximize heat storage and/or water drainage. Platform frame floors may also be supported by short poles and kept above ground.
