Leak Surveys and Control of Unaccounted‐for Water: Joint Discussion
This article presents a joint discussion on leak surveys and control of unaccounted‐for water. The first paper of the joint discussion is titled “Program at Baltimore,” by Karl H. Schamberger. It discusses how the city of Baltimore, by reactivation of its leak detection program, reduced its unaccounted‐for water, which is lost from the system at an estimated rate of 32 mgd. Baltimore has been able to hold it to a minimum by the adoption of sound works construction and maintenance procedures. The second paper of the joint discussion is titled “Practices in the District of Columbia,” by Roy L. Orndorff, and discusses the essentials of controlling unaccounted‐for water. There are many tools available, but there is no doubt that the most important ingredient in such a program is human perseverance.
