Ascot ist neben Wimbledon eines der sportlichen Großereignisse des Jahres. Während Royal Ascot besuchen täglich bis zu 80000 Personen die Pferderennen. International bekannt ist besonders der “Ladies Day”, wo jedes Jahr besonders extravagante Hutkreationen zu bewundern sind. Seit 2006 erstrahlt die Rennbahn im neuen Glanz. Kernstück dabei ist der neue Grand Stand, ein insgesamt 260 m langes Gebäude mit einer transparenten Glasfassade sowie einem geschwungenem Dach mit Blech‐ und Membranendeckung. Dieses ist geometrisch komplex und kragt bis zu 21 m über die Tribünen aus. Thema dieses Aufsatzes ist die Planung und Umsetzung der aufwendigen Dachkonstruktion unter Einhaltung eines sehr engen Terminrahmens.

The Horse Racing Week at Ascot is the annual sport highlight beside the Grand Slam Tennis Tournament at Wimbledon. During the Royal Ascot 80000 people visit the races every day. Internationally most recognised is the Ladies Day where the latest collection of extravagant hats can be admired whilst watching the elegant thoroughbreds. Since 2006 the Racecourse gleams with its new Grand Stand, a 260 m long building with a transparent facade and a wavy roof built in a combination of metal cladding and textile membranes. The roof is a geometrically complex structure which cantilevers 21 m above the stands. The topic of this paper is the design and the realisation of the elaborate roof structure in compliance with a very demanding construction schedule.
