Rocker‐Lange Architects: Shanghai Lilong Tower Urbanism, Shanghai, China
In Shanghai, rapid urbanisation has made the high‐rise the predominant building type – supplanting traditional low‐rise row houses. Here Christian J Lange, founding partner of Rocker‐Lange Architects, based in Boston and Hong Kong, describes an alternative model for the generic housing tower. By employing a computational adaptable system, dense housing is created that recreates the courtyards and access lanes of the original city through an ingenious use of a podium.
