Where Does Your Water Come from?
This article discusses where the water we use comes from, and the results of a recent nationwide pole that asked consumers if they knew where their water came from. The article provides examples from across the U.S. of how people, who know the source of their water, are more likely to protect it. In Latin America, the “water fund” was developed to generate money for watershed conservation. The article discusses “virtual water,” which is included in our individual “water footprint,” and provides an analysis of the average U.S. citizen's total water footprint, including both direct and indirect water use. A website is provided that will calculate your own personal water footprint.
