Development and Application of Coastal and Inlet Processes Modeling System
Recently, a system of numerical models called Coastal and Processes Inlet (CIP) Modeling System has been developed at the U.S Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station to consider coastal processes near open coasts as well as tidal inlets. The system consists of models for tides and storm surge. waves, wave‐Induced currents, and noncohesive sediment transpon. This paper describes the system and the component models briefly. As an illustration, an application to Oregon Inlet, Nonb Carolina is described, wherein the system was used to study the effect of a single south jetty on shoaling and lateral movement of the entrance channel in an average year, simulating a construction sequence in which the south jetty was built prior to the construction of the north jetty.
