Adapting to Global Change: Ageing, Urbanisation and Resilience
With climate change, natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes and tsunamis are occurring worldwide with greater frequency. This is at a time when an expanding older population is living in cities, where it is proving one of the most vulnerable groups when a crisis hits, from evacuation to recovery. Here, Francesca Birks and Katherine Prater of ArupForesight + Research + Innovation consider design solutions that enable the liveability of cities for ageing residents in periods of disaster, as well as stability.
