Anchorages
As a rule, waterfront structures need appropriate anchoring elements to prevent overturning and sliding, to carry horizontal loads from earth and water pressure as well as loads from the superstructure such as line pull and vessel impact. Walings are normally installed as tension members on the inside of sheet pile walls, so that the outer face of the wall remains smooth. The analysis of stability at the lower failure plane determines the minimum anchor length required for carrying the anchor force. Equilibrium of the applied moments is not considered in the verification of stability at the lower failure plane either. The active earth pressures in the vertical sections between the individual parts are assumed to act parallel to the surface. The active earth pressure in this case is only determined down to the theoretical base of the sheet piling and the anchor force is taken from the sheet piling analysis for the fixed wall.
