Once the planning and scheduling of the work is complete, the primary purpose of the dynamic time model (DTM) is to facilitate the management and direction of the works that are to take place. This is achieved through communicating the sequences, methods, required outputs and the dates by which the work needs to be undertaken. Where the time model is conceived as a 4D model in a building information modeling (BIM) environment, exports from the native 4D model can be imported into other video and photographic editing software packages for enhancement. Reporting enables key stakeholders to make informed decisions, with regard to time management, in an efficient and effective way. Good reporting ensures that all parties have the same perspective on the status of the project. During the project, data is collected that can inform improvements not only in the current project, but in the estimation and planning of future construction projects.
