Natural Scale Inhibitors
Nowadays, scaling is more commonly seen in the oilfield industry, which causes problems. A scale is formed when salt–water mixtures become supersaturated and deposit salts of inorganic/organic materials. Researchers have proposed many methods to solve the problem, including scale inhibition. Scale inhibitors are chemicals commonly used to reduce or prevent the scale. Many synthetic compounds are known for scale prevention, but the harmful effects of most synthetic antiscalants motivated researchers to research the possibility of using eco‐friendly extracts. The benefits of green scale inhibitors include being renewable, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly. Green scale inhibitors can stop, control, and postpone scale formation. Accordingly, this chapter summarizes the concepts of scale, the classification of different scale inhibitors, their mechanisms, and applications of natural scale inhibitors.
