A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
2050 – The Invisible Future
In order to create a sustainable future for the built environment advanced smart technologies, especially simulation tools will be deployed. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a good example of this type of technology which will provide us with an excellent platform to encourage a more positive and futurist vision of a sustainable built environment. In this chapter, the challenges we currently face are identified and analysed along with BIM literature within the context of sustainable futures. Following this BIM role, impact and opportunities as an appropriate technology to provide future sustainable solutions are presented and discussed. It is no surprise that many governments, both in the West and in the East, have started encouraging, and in some instances forcing, construction firms to adopt BIM. To conclude, a series of future sustainable solutions are presented with recommendations on how BIM can be deployed to provide for a sustainable environment and economy of the type that are vital to any nation.
