How Does Collaborative Procurement Operate in Brazil?
The public‐private divide described in relation to alliance contracts in Brazil also applies to construction contracts. It determines fundamental differences in relation to the approach to contracts governing public and private construction projects in Brazil. Taking into account the legal considerations, in relation to the approaches to alliances and to construction contracts in Brazil, the potential for a framework alliance is currently concentrated on private sector construction projects. The current efforts to foster the implementation and use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) can also be supported by a framework alliance in Brazil. The development of a culture of collaborative working and the early engagement of contractors involved in the design, construction and management of a project provide favourable conditions for the successful use of BIM and enable the maximisation of the benefits associated with framework alliances.
