Pressure‐Control Structures for Large Pipelines
This article discusses pressure‐control structures on large diameter pipelines in the distribution system of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The article discusses three functions that the pressure‐control structures are designed to perform: maintaining operating pressure upstream and downstream; controlling the flow of water; and, preventing the pressure in adjacent reaches of the pipeline from exceeding the design pressure. The article presents as an example the Santiago Creek and Coastal pressure‐control structures on East Orange County Feeder No.2 of the San Diego County Water Authority distribution system.
