Integration and Joining of Ceramic Matrix Composites
Integration and joining of ceramic matrix composites (CMC) are issues still to be solved to fully exploit the enormous CMC potential. There are actually several joining materials and methods available for CMC, some of them more consolidated, others just at a research level.
In particular integration, that is, possibility to assemble CMC with conventional materials, usually metals, is of technological relevance to speed up a wider use of CMC for several industrial applications.
Mechanical testing of joined structures is currently a topic of discussion within the scientific community: several different tests are used, thus making comparison of different joining and integration solutions difficult or absolutely impossible.
A brief overview on these subjects will be given with particular attention to currently available options and recent developments.
