Madrid Río, Spain – Opportunities and Policies
Over the last 12 years, the Madrid Rìo Project has become the pivot of requalification strategies. This renovation initiative was implemented to reduce the negative impact of the M‐30 highway on the Manzanares River and on the surrounding neighbourhoods. It has led to the creation of the extensive linear Madrid Río Park, concerning massive infrastructure redesign and economic investments. The outcome can be seen in the economic and social improvements in this previously neglected area and in the entire Spanish capital. The Madrid Río Project was supported transversally by main Spanish political parties, a positive step also for urban administration continuity.
