Geospatial Approach to Identify the Suitable Sites for Water Conservation: Indian Context
Water is a most essential resource for the survival of all living organisms, including human beings, on Earth. The changing climate is becoming a difficult task to combat with available water resources for both present and future. The government of India has taken a lot of initiatives to develop and manage new and old water resources on priority. A lot of programs were launched on water conservation implementation and practices by the government. The chapter discusses the use of geospatial technology in identifying suitable sites for water conservation. The identification of the suitable site for water conservation structure requires knowledge of topography; physiographic; soil texture and its properties; climate; and hydrology. The geospatial technique has enormous capability in generating such information at reasonable spatial and temporal scale. The geospatial technology can further be used to study the impact of suggested water conservation interventions after its implementation.
