Green Valley upgrade gets to the root of disinfection by‐product problem
This report describes how the city of Vallejo, California, installed a magnetic ion exchange (MIEXμ) treatment system to bring its Green Valley Water Treatment Plant (WTP) into compliance with the US Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) Stage 1 Disinfectants/Disinfection Byproducts Rule (D/DBPR). The report discusses other solutions that were considered such as chloramine disinfection, enhanced coagulation, and granular activated carbon (GAC), and describes a trial of the MIEXμ process and full‐scale performance.
