Resilient and Sustainable Water Infrastructure
This article discusses the importance of increasing the resiliency and sustainability of critical assets within the water sector. To meet this challenge, the water sector must fundamentally change the way the nation views and manages its water infrastructure. The evolution of this essential utility business model, from compliance to resiliency and sustainability, can be accomplished by focusing on the following priority areas: effective utility management; full‐cost pricing of services; efficient use of water; and, protection of resources. The article discusses in detail these four priority areas, along with interdependencies such as drinking water infrastructure providing a vital public safety function for fighting fires.
