Dead Ends, Red Water, and Scrap Piles
The ideas presented in this article contradict some firmly entrenched notions in the water industry. Observations made by the author cast doubt on the infallibility of a negative Langelier index as an indication of the occurrence of red water. Complaints of red water (and perhaps corrosion rates) were reduced when the calcium carbonate precipitation potential‐hydroxide parameter exceeded 1.0.
