The Sundsvall Bridge, Sweden
Sundsvall is located approximately 400 km north of Stockholm on the Eastern coast of Sweden as neighbour to the Bothnian Bay. The Sundsvall Bridge presently under construction will cross the Sundsvall Fjord and is a missing link in the north south motorway E4 from Stockholm along the Bothnian Bay. The Sundsvall Bridge has a total length of approx. 1.4 km between the concrete abutments. It is designed as a continuous girder bridge with a modern closed box girder cross section. A special feature for the Sundsvall Bridge is a very complex geometry, due to the curved alignment – horizontally as well as vertically. Further a varying width and a varying height of the bridge girder together with a one‐sided slope contributes to the complexity.
