Working With a Politically Active Community
Not too many years ago, the public accepted the judgment of engineers and public works officials regarding the need for and the configuration of major public works projects. This faith has since been replaced with skepticism, distrust, environmental activism, and a strong desire to limit government spending. Taken together, these factors demand that special efforts be made when public works projects are planned. This is especially true in a politically active and knowledgeable community such as Fairfax County, Virginia.
