Aesthetic Theory and Interior Design Pedagogy
Professionals in the field rarely address the multifaceted relationships between interior design pedagogy and aesthetics. Consequently, interior design is predominantly discussed in terms of ethics and functional considerations of content or activity, and much less in terms of its image, composition, or visual effect. This chapter addresses design aesthetic theory by bridging the interior and the exterior, and diminishing the place where the interior and the exterior begin or end. In the discussion about aesthetics, interior design and architecture should be treated as a continuous design discipline that takes a unique place among the arts. Anyone involved in the act of design can benefit from the discourse about the physical form and its impact on the individual and society at large. Thus the chapter adds another perspective to the disordered discussion about interior design pedagogy in an attempt to offer its audience a broader point of view.
