A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Learning from history: 12 introductory essays
After dividing the historical development of theory of structures from 1575 to the present day into periods, important methods of calculation are presented in a readily understandable form in their socio‐historical context. The formal teaching of the fundamentals of theory of structures achieved through a historical approach thus forms an element in historico‐genetic structural engineering studies. The chapter concludes with the specific development of the relationship between beauty and law in the theory of structures.
